Chairmans Address 2009

My earliest memory of vintage machinery is a horse drawn mowing bar.   Although agriculture has come a long way since then, with the horse and the mowing bar both in retirement now, it is great to see the revival that has come about in the vintage heritage over the past number of years.

I am particularly happy to be involved in Narraghmore Vintage Club and as a founding member, I am very proud to be writing this foreword to the calender.

Alot of work goes on on the ground to encourage people to become involved and to see the age range of our members, from 18 up to “vintage vintage” , it demonstrates the huge common interest there is out there for all things and traditions past.

Being a member of our Club is not just about bringing the tractor or car out for a drive every few weeks, its about community, unity, respect and enjoyment and this is very evident in our Club.        Not only has it instilled an interest amongst those of us from the farming tradition, but it has created an interest for people who have moved into the community and has brought a vibrancy once again to Narraghmore village.      It has also presented us as members with an opportunity to meet other Clubs and participate in their events and to make new friends in areas all over Ireland.      We can be very proud of the participation of our Club in the recent Ploughing Championships.

We have many things planned for the coming year and my wish as Chairman of the Club is for continued and full participation by the members, with, I hope many new members joining.   I would like to hear everyones ideas and see them come to fruition.   Remember, our Club is for everyone.

May I wish everyone a very safe and prosperous new year and look forward to meeting you all over the coming year.

Remember,  Vintage is best.
